How to qualify in California structural pest control

Select both a license level and a branch. Applicator, Field Representative, and Operator describe authority; Branches 1, 2, and 3 describe the kind of pest-control work.

    Choose the level and branch

    Use Branch 1 for fumigation, Branch 2 for general household pests, and Branch 3 for wood-destroying pests, then select Applicator, Field Representative, or Operator authority.

    Gain required training or experience

    Document the Board-required branch training and supervised field work. Operator candidates must meet the branch experience period and Field Representative component or an accepted equivalent.

    Complete pre-operator education if applicable

    Operator applicants finish the Board-approved pre-operator courses for the branch within the accepted lookback period before submitting the exam application.

  4. 4

    Apply for and pass the examination

    Submit the online application and fee, schedule with PSI after approval, and pass the California examination for the exact level and branch.

  5. 5

    Complete licensure and employment

    Submit Live Scan and the license fee, then work only within the issued authority and branches for a registered company; an Operator may qualify a company in held branches.

    Complete the exact CE matrix

    Before June 30 of the renewal year, complete 12 Applicator hours or the 16-, 20-, or 24-hour Field Representative or Operator mix and retain every certificate for upload.

What the licensing authority requires

Structural pest control uses three license levels and three work branches. Branch 1 covers fumigation, Branch 2 general household pests, and Branch 3 wood-destroying pests; a license authorizes only its stated level and branches.

Authority: California Structural Pest Control Board (SPCB)

Applicator and Field Representative

  • Applicator is the entry-level employee license for Branches 2 and 3. An applicator works for a registered company and cannot independently contract for pest-control work.
  • A Field Representative may be licensed in Branch 1, 2, or 3 to inspect, identify, apply, bid, or contract on behalf of a registered company, but cannot contract on the representative's own behalf.
  • Applicants pass the examination, submit Live Scan fingerprints, and complete licensure. Current exam information lists a $75 Field Representative exam fee and a $45 license fee; the applicator license fee is $35.

Operator and company responsibility

  • An Operator performs Field Representative duties and may own a registered company or serve as its qualifying manager in the branches held.
  • Operator experience is generally two years for Branch 1, two years for Branch 2, or four years for Branch 3, with at least one year as a Field Representative for Branches 1 or 2 or two years for Branch 3, unless equivalent experience is accepted.
  • Board-approved pre-operator courses must be completed within the permitted period before the exam application. The current Operator exam fee is $100 and license fee is $150.

Continuing education and renewal

  • Applicators complete 12 hours: four rules and regulations, six pesticide use and application, and two integrated pest management.
  • Field Representatives and Operators complete 16 hours for one branch, 20 for two branches, or 24 for all three, with the exact rules, technical, IPM, and general distribution shown by SPCB.
  • CE must be completed by June 30 and certificates uploaded with renewal. Current renewal fees are $35 for Applicator, $45 for Field Representative, and $150 for Operator; licenses not renewed by September 30 are cancelled.

How 101PD becomes a CE provider

  • SPCB requires a provider registration form and $50 fee before a provider offers Board-approved continuing education.
  • Each activity requires a separate application and $25 fee at least 60 days before presentation, followed by a presentation notice at least 30 days in advance.
  • Providers maintain compliant completion certificates and submit attendance rosters for Board audit. Credit category and branch allocation must match the approval.
  • Exam preparation is non-credit training; the planned CE package remains $0 and non-credit until provider and activity approvals are active.

Verify with the licensing authority

Agency rules control. Requirements can change and individual eligibility varies. 101PD identifies each course as training, application-pending, or approved; it does not treat exam preparation as statutory credit unless the named authority has approved that specific course and provider.

101PD is in its free launch period. Future prices are stored, but public payment links remain disabled until every approval and payment gate passes.

What does Available soon mean?

The public outline is ready, but the full learning content is still in production. Join that page's waitlist; enrollment cannot open until its content status is Published.

Are prelicensing, exam prep, and continuing education the same?

No. They serve different stages of a license. This page keeps them together for comparison while every card states its own purpose and credit status.

What do I receive after completion?

Training completions receive an honest training certificate. Regulator-credit certificates are issued only when the specific course and provider approval permit them.

What is the comparable market fee?

When a defensible public comparison exists, the product card names the provider, comparable offer, checked date, and source price. It is context only: the 101PD launch price remains $0 and a comparison never creates approval or enrollment rights.

Why is there no active Stripe checkout yet?
